There’s magic in every song … not the song itself, but in what you bring to the song when you hear it, when you LISTEN. Certainly, there are many songs that never capture your attention being like one of the many storefronts you might pass n walking to work. But once a song gets to know you, the magic comes without a conscious effort. Sometimes it takes time to “feel” or “see” the magic. At other times it might just reach out and grab you, rudely capturing your inner soul and thereby awakening the magic in you.
Songs aren’t supposed to have “stories”. You create your own story when a song captures you. The story might be the person you were with when the magic came. The story might be the sorrow or memory of a distant place that comes from inside you each time the song rings through. The “stories” that adorn these pages are not meant to replace that which you see or hear in the song. They serve as an introduction. Perhaps a story will tweak your imagination and by doing so, get you ready for the song.
May I suggest that you visit with my “Stories and Songs” the same way as you might visit an art museum, moving room to room looking for a painting that grabs you, so that you will come back to visit again. If you don’t see something that catches you in one room, move on to another. Read, listen. As you visit, I hope you will find one or two pieces that you will come to visit again and again.
